Jonayed Shakir calls for work to start from September to create an environment for fair elections
Jonayed Saki said these things at a meeting titled ‘Expectations and Challenges for Fair Elections: What the Government, Political Parties and Civil Society Can Do to Organize Successful Elections’ at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Thursday. The meeting was organized by the Citizen Platform, Citizen Coalition. Representatives of civil society, as well as leaders of various political parties, participated in the meeting. Jonayed Saki said that if any party conflicts with another party anywhere in the country, or if there is undemocratic behavior, those issues need to be centrally monitored from now on. We need to work from now on to change the administration’s mentality of wanting to be close to the party that will form the government in the upcoming elections. Working on the environment after the election schedule is announced will not work.
At the meeting, Jonayed Saki spoke about the method of implementing the July Charter. He mentioned that there is room for distrust among political parties. He said that for this, questions are being raised about whether the elected government will implement the reform proposals or not. For this reason, he believes that there should be a legal obligation for implementation.
Jonayed Saki commented that the consent of the people is needed to amend the constitution. He said that if the next election is declared as the Constitutional Reform Council, the people will know that the elected parliament will make fundamental reforms to the constitution. And the elected government will govern the country for five years.
